Belihuloya

Belihuloya offers a highland landscape of mountain gorges, pine forests and open grassland. A combination of wildlife safaris, guided trekking to hidden waterfalls, and glamping-style accommodation places guests at the heart of pristine nature. Also, Baker’s Bend, perched within the Nonpareil Estate above Belihuloya, is a horseshoe-shaped viewpoint named after the British planter Samuel Baker.
Kalpitiya

A remote peninsula of sand dunes, lagoons and mangroves, Kalpitiya has emerged as one of Asia’s finest kitesurfing destinations during the May to October wind season. Large pods of spinner dolphins are regularly encountered from October to May. The lagoon system supports exceptional birdlife and peaceful kayaking. A uniquely versatile coastal destination.
Kitulgala

Kitulgala offers exhilarating grade 3 to 4 white-water rafting on the scenic Kelani River, surrounded by dense tropical jungle and farming villages. The surrounding forest is also excellent for birdwatching, trekking, and camping. Kitulgala was famously the filming location for David Lean’s The Bridge on the River Kwai. Best May to December.
Knuckles Mountain Range

A UNESCO World Heritage highland wilderness of cloud forest, rocky peaks, remote villages and pristine rivers, the Knuckles remain largely off the mainstream tourist trail. Multi-day trekking through biodiversity-rich ecosystems feels wild and remote. Best from December to April.
Horton Plains

Sri Lanka’s highest and most dramatic national park lies above 2,100 metres, a landscape of cloud forest, open grassland, and endemic flora. The main nine-kilometre trekking loop leads to World’s End, a sheer 900-metre cliff drop, and Baker’s Falls. Wildlife includes sambar deer, langurs, and rare leopards. Visit at dawn before clouds close in.
Ella
