Wasgamuwa / Minneriya National Park Elephant Safari Tour

Tour Overview

Every year, between July and October, one of the natural world’s most astonishing spectacles unfolds around the ancient Minneriya reservoir in Sri Lanka’s North Central Province. As the waters recede through the dry season, fresh grass emerges along the exposed lake bed, drawing hundreds of wild Asian elephants from the surrounding forest in what has been called ‘The Gathering’: the largest congregation of wild Asian elephants on earth. This dedicated safari experience is designed around witnessing this phenomenon, with expert naturalist guides providing context and positioning for the best possible encounters with these remarkable animals in their natural habitat.
